A local guide with expert knowledge.

Since moving to the region in 2017, I have fully immersed myself in the landscape searching for ways to reveal it's true essence through my photography. So I know this place very well.

During it's cooler months, the High Country is known for it's unpredictable and rapidly changing weather. Possessing an acute understanding of the weather and what makes a place tick is crucial to photographing these landscapes.

My story

As photographers, we often find ourselves drawn to grand landscapes and iconic scenes, but the true magic often lies in the overlooked details of nature.

By training our eyes to look beyond the obvious, we can uncover hidden patterns, textures and details that stir a sense of wonder and invite viewers into a more intimate connection with the natural world.

This is where my passion lies, in showing photographers how to slow down, truly observe, and discover the hidden beauty in nature’s most subtle details, helping them capture images that evoke connection and lasting impact.

Come join my on a workshop and let me teach you everything I have learnt and avoid all the mistakes I have made.

Amazing!

The workshop with Jeff was brilliant. Having such a small group allowed us all to get to know each other and have great one-on-one time with Jeff.
His relaxed, but knowledgeable approach, and his knowledge of the area, really helped me expand my abilities and get great images.
It was over all to quickly!

Brilliant

The group size was perfect for the workshop, allowing everyone to spend time with Jeff and receive his guidance and mentoring. We had 2 experienced photographers and 2 on the beginner end. Jeff was able to accommodate this really well, and I found we ended up all sharing tips. Jeff was excellent at teaching the theory, but in an easy to understand way. He was also generous with composition ideas. Would highly recommend this workshop, both to beginner and experienced photographers.

Jeff's workshops come highly recommended, his attention to individual skill levels and personal attention to all attendees so they learn and achieve great outcomes is right up there with the best photographers. Anyone doing creative light workshops won't be disappointed and will leave with some great images.

Jeff's first-hand knowledge of alpine areas and conditions, and the tailored and constructive advice he provided to group members, meant that all participants were able to improve their photographic technique and to come away from the workshop with some impressive images. I thoroughly recommend this workshop.

Joining Jeff's photography workshop was a fantastic experience that went above and beyond what I was expecting.
Jeff is more than just a teacher - he's a guide who really knows his stuff, but also knows how to explain it in a way that makes sense. He's patient, kind, and obviously enjoys sharing his passion for photography.

Fantastic experience!

Thoroughly recommend!

Jeff’s Alpine Photography workshop was amazing. We were graced with fantastic weather - not strictly in Jeff’s control, and managed a variety of shooting conditions. The workshop catered to all levels of experience and with small numbers of participants Jeff was able to share his time and knowledge with us all. With both theoretical and practical knowledge shared, in comfortable accommodation I would definitely recommend Jeff’s workshops for all levels of photography experience. (From the beginner!).

Jeff's teaching style is uncomplicated, fun and effective - I can certainly see the difference in my before and after workshop images.
Being a local Jeff knows the best locations for the weather / time of day and we photographed accordingly. We had fog, sun, snow and rain and Jeff knows the best place to be for them all.
Look forward to another workshop with Jeff next year.

Additional Info

Locations

important details

With an abundance of locations and subjects to photograph, the workshop will be adaptive to weather conditions.

Upon arrival, I will outline the itinery and locations planned over the course of the workshop.

I will continually assess the changes in conditions over the duration of the workshop to ensure we take advantage of the best conditions for each location.

Alpine conditions frequently change making weather difficult to forecast and requiring a level of adaptability for the highest chance of success.

Meals

Food, snacks and beverages are the responsibility of the workshop attendees. Dinner Plain has a variety of food options including pubs, cafe's and restuarants. There is a small supermarket in Dinner Plain however it is expensive compared with regular supermarkets.

A farewell dinner (meal only) will be held on the last night and is included in the cost of the workshop. Drinks including alcohol will be at the expense of the workshop participant.

Our accommodation has suitable cooking facilities however if you wish to cook your own meals you may wish to plan ahead and purchase groceries on your way.

fitness & activity levels

A moderate level of fitness is required for this workshop. Whilst the distances will only be short walks, we will be walking through snow mostly at ankle height however, depending on the snow levels it could be knee deep in some areas. We will be walking on uneven terrain and it is easy to lose balance when walking across areas covered in snow.
Waterproof boots such as snow shoes are recommended.

Further information as well as a packing list will be provided upon booking. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.
